What bioidentical means
Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones your body makes, such as estradiol, progesterone and testosterone. Many are FDA-approved, for example estradiol patches and gels and micronized progesterone. Compounded versions are used when an approved product doesn’t fit your needs. Dr. Mitra favors FDA-approved options wherever possible.

What changed in 2026
In February 2026 the FDA approved label changes for six menopausal hormone therapy products. The changes remove the boxed warning statements about heart disease, breast cancer and probable dementia. Risks such as blood clots, stroke and gallbladder disease remain on the label. Therapy is still individualized by age, time since menopause and personal history.
Hormones and your skin
Estrogen supports collagen, skin thickness and hydration. Skin can lose a large share of its collagen in the first five years after menopause. That’s why hormone health and aesthetic results are planned together here.
Thyroid, cortisol and insulin
Sex hormones are only part of the picture. Thyroid hormone sets your metabolism, cortisol reflects stress load, and insulin controls blood sugar. All three affect energy, weight and skin, and they are part of your workup.
Safety and supervision
Hormone therapy is prescribed only after a full history, appropriate labs and screening, and it is monitored with regular follow-up. Bioidentical hormone therapy is provided by Dr. Mitra Tahvildarian, AGNP-C, under the supervision of a licensed medical doctor.

Are bioidentical hormones safe?
For many women who start hormone therapy near menopause, benefits outweigh risks. In 2026 the FDA removed several long-standing boxed-warning statements, but risks such as blood clots and stroke still apply, so therapy is individualized and monitored.
What is the difference between bioidentical and synthetic hormones?
Bioidentical hormones match the structure of the hormones your body makes. Some older therapies use hormones with a different structure. Many bioidentical options are FDA-approved.
Do you treat men with low testosterone?
Yes. Men with symptoms of low testosterone can be evaluated with labs and a full history.
Can I do hormone therapy virtually?
Yes. Consultations and follow-ups can be virtual. Labs are drawn at a local lab.
Will hormone therapy help my skin?
Estrogen supports collagen and hydration, so many women notice better skin. Hormones are prescribed for symptoms and health, not for appearance alone.
